Got and invite from a friend of mine, Toby, to join him and a friend of ours Kyle, on a private lake for a while today. We got on the water about 10:00 AM and the fishing started out slow. We tried cranks, swim jigs, carolina rigs and shake heads without any sucess. I finially caught a couple shallow on a 3/8 oz football from Flatlands Custom Tackle, but the shallow bite soon diminished. Kyle decided try one of the jigs I was using. Shortly after that, he found some brush on a drop off that went from 8' to 12' and it was on. In the next 15 minutes, he proceeded to catch 3 over 7 lbs. He then continued to try finding more brush on the drops and that he did. All I can say is WOW, he had an awesome day. He probabily caught 6 fish over 6 lbs, with his best 5 coming in at 32 to 35 lbs. Toby and I caught several in the 4 to 5 lb range, but nothing like Kyle's fish. Toby and I had a good time watching Kyle put on a jig fishingclinic until about 2:00 PM when we had to head in. All fish were caught in 8' to 12' of water around scattered brush on a 3/8 oz HVY hook football jig from Flatlands Custom Tackle rigged with a speed craw. Water temps ranged from 50 to 52 degrees.
Thanks Toby and Kyle for a great day on the water ! Lynn
After reading a recent post about the jig bit being on at Lake Worth. I decoded to head out this afternoon and try some of the Poison Tail Jigs I ordered from Flatlands Custom Tackle. I had been catching a few in a neighborhood pond with them but decided to see what they would do without such a captive audience. I arrived at the ramp about 1:15 and met a gentleman there who had been out for a while and said the fishing was pretty tough. Said he had been throwing cranks and spinner baits on points without much luck. Hearing this I decided to tie one of the Poison Tails and start pitching to shallow cover. I only managed 3 bites in about 3.5 hours but two of them were pretty good ones. The biggest was 6 lbs 12 oz and all were caught on a 3/8 oz jig tipped with a speed craw. All were caught in 3' of water out on the main lake. If you get the chance to get out there, it should be better with the warm temps and wind we are suppose to have tomorrow. Tight Lines !
